Background
The first meeting of the Brussels - Grey Central Transition Committee was held Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Grey Central Public School. The committee is made up of students, staff, parents and community representatives from both school communities. The Transition Committee's mandate is to make the consolidation of the two Huron East schools into the Grey Central location for September 2012 and smooth and seamless transition.
At the meeting the Committee voted to recommend to the Board of Trustees that the consolidates school be renamed to reflect a new school community. The group chose "North Woods Elementary School" was approved by the Board at its regular meeting on June, 28, 2011.
Superintendent of Education Mike Ash outlined the responsibilities and structure of the Transition Committee at the meeting in order to prepare the group for the work ahead beginning in the early fall of 2011. Among the committee members are four grade 4 students, two from Brussels Public School and two from Grey Central.
